Longcot and Fernham (CE) Primary School Uniform Policy
A high standard of personal appearance is expected of all our children. Through our uniform policy we aim to:
· Encourage pride in the school
· Support teaching and learning
· Enable children to be comfortable, safe and secure
· Protect children from social pressures to dress in a particular way.
In this way, the uniform contributes to the overall aims of the school
The uniform is available from www. mapac.com
Our uniform is as follows
Winter (Term 2,3,4)
Summer
Blue polo shirt
School sweatshirt/cardigan
White/black socks (not sport socks)
Black skirt/pinafore dress/trousers
Sturdy black flat shoes
Pale blue and white checked or striped summer dresses
Smart black shorts/trousers
White/black socks
Sturdy black flat shoes or sandals
Footwear. For reasons of safety and promotion of foot health, children must wear clean, sensible, low wide heeled shoes. Trainers should not be worn to school
Children are not permitted to wear boots and are only able to participate in PE/games with the appropriate clothing.
Jewellery.
Earrings, bracelets, bangles, necklaces and rings are not permitted as they may be mislaid or cause serious accidents. Watches may be worn which do not distract children or classmates from their lessons. Plain metal studs (‘sleepers’) may be worn. (It would be helpful if any ear piercing was done in summer holiday time which allows for the healing process to be completed before returning to school.) It is very important that the children can remove the studs themselves for PE. If ear studs can’t be removed by the child, individuals should provide their own micropore tape from home to cover over the stud. It is not the responsibility of staff to remove ear studs or look after them.
Long hair
If hair reaches shoulder length, for health and safety requirements it should be tied back. Fashion hairstyles are not permitted along with hair gel and hair dye.

Swimming
As part of the national curriculum, Key stage 2 children (only) are provided with swimming lessons at a local pool. A small donation towards the cost of travel is requested. All children must have a swimming hat. These are available to purchase from the school office. Towels and one piece costumes should be named and placed in a bag.
Long Bermuda or “cut off” type shorts are not appropriate for swimming lessons. Swimming aids if needed will be provided by the instructors. Goggles may only be worn where a written note is provided for medical reasons. Items such as earrings, necklaces, rings or watches are not permitted in the pool. These points are in line with Oxfordshire County Council policy and the school policy.
Other associated activities
From time to time additional clothing and/or equipment such as football boots may be recommended for school and after school activities.
All items should clearly named and stored in a bag that can be hung up. At the end of each week children must take their PE kit home to be washed and have a fresh kit with them on the following Monday.
Summer weather As part of our health and safety measures we regularly remind children to be sensible about exposure to the sun’s rays. We encourage children to wear a peaked sun hat, wear sun glasses, carry a drink with them and use sun cream or similar sun blocker during break times. Children should spend some of their break in the shade cooling off so that they are ready to commence lessons. Maroon coloured peaked hats are available to purchase from the school office.
Please Note: Free delivery on all orders over £60. All orders under £60 will incur a £4.75 carriage charge (UK mainland only).
